Cold-shrunk cable accessories are formed by injection vulcanization of elastic material in the factory, and then expanded and lined with plastic spiral support to form various parts of cable accessories.
Cold shrink type cable accessories is the use of elastophysical materials (commonly used silicone rubber and ethylene propylene rubber) in the factory injection vulcanization molding, and then by expanding diameter, lined with plastic spiral support to form a variety of cable accessories parts.
In the field installation, these pre-expansion pieces are set at the end or joint of the treated cable, and the plastic spiral strip (support) of the internal support is extracted and pressed on the cable insulation to form the cable accessory. Because it is at room temperature by elastic retract force, rather than like heat shrink cable accessories to use fire heating shrinkage, it is commonly known as cold shrink cable accessories.
The early cold shrink cable terminal head only uses silicone rubber cold shrink parts for additional insulation, and the electric field treatment still uses stress cone type or stress band wrapping type.
Cold shrink stress control tubes are commonly used, with voltages ranging from 10kv to 35kv. Cold shrink cable joint, 1kv class adopts cold shrink insulation pipe as enhanced insulation, 10kv class adopts cold shrink insulation with inner and outer semi-conductive shielding. A cold shrink branch sleeve is used at the terminal bifurcation of the three-core cable.
Cold shrink cable accessories have the advantages of small size, easy operation, fast, no special tools, wide application range and less product specifications. Compared with heat-shrinkable cable accessories, it does not need to be heated by fire, and after installation, moving or bending will not cause the danger of detaching between the inner layers of the accessories like heat-shrinkable cable accessories (because cold-shrinkable cable accessories rely on elastic pressing force).
Compared with prefabricated cable accessories, although they rely on elastic pressing force to ensure the internal interface characteristics, it does not correspond to the cable section like prefabricated cable accessories, and there are many specifications.
It must be pointed out that before installation on the cable, the components of the prefabricated cable accessories are without tension, while the cold shrinkage cable accessories are in a state of high tension. Therefore, it must be ensured that during the storage period, the cold shrinkage components should not have obvious permanent deformation or elastic stress relaxation, otherwise it cannot be guaranteed to have sufficient elastic pressing force after installation on the cable. Thus, good interface characteristics cannot be guaranteed.
